Introducing our very own Kartoonist Laureate, and long time GoKarteer, Geoff Waterhouse. Not related, but very much part of the family now.
“I was born with a lazy gene which I’ve developed over the years.
Having blagged my way through years in advertising via the medium of cartoons I eventually took the risky step of becoming a freelance cartoonist. I was reasonably successful with several leading magazines such as Punch, The Oldie, Readers Digest etc. This was supplemented by drawings organized by a rather expensive (33⅓%) agent.
Eventually I semi-retired to a full time life of fell walking, kayaking, mountain biking, gardening and golf. It’s a hard life. This has followed decades of sand yachting, athletics, football and generally anything that didn’t come under the heading of ‘work’.
For the last three years I’ve had cartoons accepted in the prestigious Sunday Times Watercolour Competition. These are the only paintings I’ve ever done. That I must claim to be the highest success rate in the history of art.
Now I’m GoKart’s Kartoonist. A splendid title which affords me great respect on the golf course – that may also be due in part to the fact that I’ve got a GoKart bag full of GoKart ProV1s and a generous nature.”
Look out for Geoff’s creations regularly on the Blog. Here’s his self portrait for starters;
