Vousden. On saying it how it is.

How do you know when you’re out of invisible ink?
Rest well
You may not recognise the name of Dave Hill, who died at the end of last month, but he was one of the most accomplished shot-makers the American Tour has ever seen. He was also one of its most outspoken (and therefore frequently fined) members, a man of genuine wit and one of the participants in the single most bad-tempered Ryder Cup match ever seen – one that nearly caused a riot.

It happened in 1969 and, although the chief culprit was Hill’s fourball partner, Ken Still (who could start an argument at a convention of pacifists), Dave Hill and their opponents, Bernard Gallacher and Brian Huggett, nevertheless played their part. It is ironic that this Ryder Cup is best remembered for the Jack Nicklaus putt that he conceded on the final green to give Tony Jacklin a half because what preceded that remarkable gesture was the most spiteful single match in the competition’s history. The week got off to a bad start when the (more…)

Oct 08 2011 Posted in GoKart News, Latest News by GoKartA lot of of GoKart owners have asked us about upgrading to the new Automatic handle system, and we promised we’d let you know when this was possible. So now it is!
It will involve you being without your trolley for a week, and it’s more expensive that the difference in price between the standard trolley and the Auto (that’s the bad news). The good news is your GoKart will have a really good going over here – apart from fitting the new handle, when we have it completely dismantled we’ll replace anything that’s looking a bit tired or needs updating AND YOU’LL GET A BRAND NEW TWO YEAR WARRANTY on the trolley.
We just wanted to make it worth your while – and ours – when the beastie comes back for plastic surgery.
There are full instructions on this webpage – we’ve tried to make it as easy as possible to make arrangements for the return.
As for the our new control system…we reckon you’ll love it! It’s already getting rave reviews with customers amazed at how easy it is to use. Just you wait and see!

Let’s talk Hedgehogs!
Sep 28 2011 Posted in GoKart News by GoKartAutumn is here (and just to be contrary, we’re looking out of the window at brilliant sunshine and a temperature close to 27 degrees…British weather is certainly interesting…) No matter how much we want to hang on to the last vestiges of summer, we know that inevitably we have squishy fairways and waterproofs ahead of us.
But the good news; more and more courses are allowing electric trolleys throughout the winter as long as they’re equipped with winter wheels. Trolley bans are becoming more of a rarity, thank goodness. We’ve tested the hedgehogs on GoKarts for a long while now, and it’s very apparent to us that they really do reduce turf damage. The test here is interesting too; hedgehog test and might help to persuade your club if they’re still in a quandary.
Hedgehogs are available on the GoKart webshop for £61 plus p&p (ROI €74). This is a set for all three wheels; the drive wheels and the small front wheel.

Could be the end of a spiky problem!

Solheim Showdown. Vousden reflects.

Why is it that no matter what colour bubble bath you use, the bubbles are always white?
Solheim shocker
Trish Johnson, an on-course commentator for Sky Sports and a veteran herself of eight Solheim Cups, summed it all up neatly as the final day at Killeen Castle was reaching its climax. I quote from memory.
‘It’s always the same,’ she said. ‘Europe does well in the fourball and foursomes but gets pegged back over the last few holes. And then the Americans win the singles.’

And so it appeared this time until those final three, magnificent matches. Suzann Pettersen one-putted the last four greens, birdying the final three holes, to turn a two-hole deficit into a one-hole win against Michelle Wie. Rookie Caroline Hedwall won the last two holes against Ryan O’Toole to grab a crucial half point. And fellow rookie Azahara Munoz held on for a one-hole win in the final match to seal the deal at 15-13. We can only hope that (more…)

Borrow money from pessimists – they don’t expect it back
A singular talent
What is it with the Americans and singles? In all the team competitions – Walker, Curtis, Ryder and Solheim Cups, it doesn’t matter what sort of advantage our home team builds over the first few series of matches, when the singles are played the Yanks will come back hard.
It happened again over the weekend at Royal Aberdeen in the Walker Cup when, going into the man on man final series of matches, Great Britain & Ireland had such a commanding lead – 10.5 to 5.5 – that they only needed three points from a possible 12 to regain the trophy. It should have been a cakewalk and yet during the course of an often painful afternoon, red figures went up on the leaderboard with frightening regularity before GB&I eventually staggered over the line, grateful to end up with a 14-12 scoreline that was just enough for victory.
As will be demonstrated again in the Solheim Cup which starts in 11 days, it ain’t over, as our transatlantic cousins like to remind us too often for comfort, until the fat lady sings.
