Yoga for Golf – get fit for 2010!

Feeling a bit creaky? Belt still a bit snug after xmas? Not been playing much in the bad weather? Well ditch the excuses and join us for a little pre-season preparation. We’ll have you fit as a flea in time the first proper golf of the year (the defininition of proper golf is a) less that 12 layers of clothing, b) no temporaries and c) NO TROLLEY BANS).

Yoga is a perfect exercise for golf; it helps your flexibility, strength, balance, protection against injury…and at the same time it sorts your head out; improving focus and relaxation.

Carol Jackson, our Yoga guru, has ten online lessons all ready for you, with one appearing on the blog each week. So here’s the first. It’s a handy little warm up that you can use before the other lessons, or on the tee before you play.

Big thanks to Freehand for their superb video production and, of course to Carol herself for putting the programme together

  1. I do yoga a lot and have found it really helpful with my golf. Flexibility is everything and core strength really important for stability. This warmup is really helpful.

  2. I have a yoga for golf dvd, but Carol’s warm-up is full of all new moves; a great warm-up that’s so easy to do on the tee. A little card with pictures would be great to use as a reminder. Thanks, GoKart. I’ll be tuning in each week for more.

  3. Warm-ups (and warm downs) are so important, especially as you get older, like me. The video was easy to follow and helpful and the exercises can be achieved by people that are not that flexible, talking about me again. I support the suggestion about a supplementry card to support the video.

  4. What a great idea. Many thanks for the excellent yoga programme. As a senior golfer I’d forgotten many of the warm up routines and other exercises for the golfing muscles. Will try to work on those I’ve seen and expect many more yards on that drive!
