Now Autumn’s here, be ready with your hedgehogs.

Oct 06 2008

It seems like the soggy conditions are setting in early and some courses are imminently insisting on players using hedgehog wheels on trolleys. We, and lots of GoKart owners, trialled these last winter and they worked a treat.

Just to re-cap, you can get the hedgehog fairway protectors here and you will find them in proshops too. They cost approx £24. The fittings supplied with the kit are a bit skimpy for our wheels, but cable ties are the trick.

We’ll be producing our round-the-year knobbly wheels with a bit more tread, but these are a good option for serious winter footwear, particularly as some courses actually specify that they have to be used.  No we’re not related and yes they were featured on Dragons’ Den. We like ‘em (and yes we think the Dragons were wrong).

I beg to differ with your response of November 15th 2008 to Nigel Mace. I have just purchased and fitted Hegdehogs (required by my club) and the cart will not fit in the bag with the hedgehogs on. Wheel fits in one side OK but I cannot get the zip to fasten on the other side. I guess the bags must differ slightly and that makes all the difference to getting it zipped up right round.
Must say the Hedgehogs fitted fine using cable ties as suggested and the cart works well. Still delighted with my GoKart

On a frozen course this morning, they were OK but tended to slip sideways off of the wheel as they are fitted with cable ties, They can’t go all the way as they cannot breach the cable ties.

I have just purchased a set of (fairway hoppa hedgehog wheels size 10 and I can confirm that they all fit into the bag!

    Nigel,
Agreed, they do make it a tight fit, but we beg to differ – the trolley will fit in the GoKart bag with hedgehogs fitted.

i have hedgehogs on my gokart too. only problem is that with the hedgehogs fitted on the wheels, the gokart wont fit in the carry bag.

    Graham,
A good number of GoKarts been using hedgehogs since last winter and there have been no problems. We’re quite happy to give warranty backup to all owners if they want/have to use them on their trolley.

Hi I have read several articles that state hedgehog wheels are not recomended for electric trollevs as they burn out the motors does anybody have experience of this?.

    Hi Gordon,
We don’t supply the hedgehog fairway protectors ourselves, you would have to buy them separately. The link is on the blog article above. At the moment the GoKart comes with standard tyres. These are going to be modified during the course of the winter to be a bit knobblier with more tread. These would be available free of charge to existing customers that wanted them.

Can I purchase a new Go-Kart fitted with equivalent of hedgehog tyres fitted as standard instead of ordinary wheels and would it still cost just £199
