So what’s so good…

Aug 16

…about your favourite courses? Maybe it’s your home club or just somewhere you play whenever you get the chance. Maybe it’s their bacon sarnies, or the way the long shadows hit the contours on the eighteenth fairway late on a summer evening if you want to be more poetic…Pretty golf course

We’re lucky in that the game can be so varied, we’re not stuck on a pitch or a court that’s a certain size. What’s so special about yours (or are you worried we’ll all come along and make it horribly busy?)

Around us here we’ve got a lot of links, each with their own ‘feel’. St.George’s has to be the top dog for sheer character, bunkers and James Bond. Royal St GeorgesWe rather like Canterbury (also named Scotland Hills) as an inland course. It was designed by the same chap who produced both Wentworths. Lots of gorse, elevated tees, side slopes, crucial lines and in lovely nick. Happy to have it as our local anyway…

So go on, share your little secrets with us. We’ve told you ours.

I would tell you about Beaufort and Dooks in Kerry but I want to keep these little gems a secret so they don’t get crowded.

Sutton Hall GC in Cheshire is a top course. Very friendly members and a challenging course. Visitors welcome and Jamie in the Pro Shop is always ready to make a deal. How golf should be done.

Has to be Weald of Kent on a Sunday morning. (first tee off time) being the first to play the golf with no queues. (just over 3 hours to play 18 golf) Walking around while the wild life wake up from their slumber. Seeing the lambs grow from week to week. The laugh and a joke with Bill and Don who work in the pro shop and marshall respectively. Walking around teh 18 holes with my husband praising each other on excellent shots and comfortable each other on the too often not so great shots. Playing our favorite and worse holes and hoping for our best ever score. Weald of Kent may not be the best course in the world but when you put all of those things together it certainly is in our eyes
