Romance on the fairway. GoKart style.

Feb 23 2011

Mills and Boon isn’t usually our thing, but we did rather like the story of two customers meeting (and are subsequently getting along rather swimmingly) because of a GoKart.  She told him about hers, then he went and got one and they compared notes…and it kind of kicked off from there.  Who knows, maybe even the patter of little hedgehog wheels one day. Keep us posted (you know who you are, and we wouldn’t make you blush and quote any names).

Ups and downs from the fairways with Martin Vousden

Thought for the day
If you can smile when things go wrong, you must have someone in mind to blame

Better (and worse) than reality
Sport offers fairy tales in a way that is rarely, if ever, replicated in any other facet of life. In golf alone we have experienced, for example, Ben Crenshaw triumphing at the Masters the week his mentor Harvey Penick died; Darren Clarke winning the Ryder Cup single-handedly (or so it seemed) within weeks of his wife Heather succumbing to cancer, and Ben Hogan coming back from near-death to win more Majors than almost anyone else before or since. That’s apart from all those other sporting near miracles from every arena in which teams or individuals pit themselves against each other – Kelly Holmes overcoming years of frustration and injury to become a double Olympic gold medallist; Muhammad Ali coming off the ropes in Kinshasha to lay out the most fearsome puncher in boxing, George Foreman; or Lance Armstrong overcoming cancer to saddle up again and win the Tour De France.

But in stark contrast to these Against All Odds victories comes the tragic tales of (more…)

A belated announcement

Feb 20 2011

We have a confession to make (by the way, have you seen that there is now a app that lets you to go to confession via your iPhone. Approved by the Pope too). When we threw out the Radio Times and officially announced that Christmas was over we clean forgot to announce the winner of the 2010 Christmas Caption Comp. Darren S gave us a nudge (thank you Darren).

Well the lucky winner is Nigel Lorriman with Santa saying “If it gets any colder my elf will deteriorate”.  We’ll be sending a dozen GoKart hole-in-one balls (please deploy wisely) in the post this week.  Sorry they’re a bit late.  Darren – we’ll send you a sleeve too.

There’s lots of cute baby clips on Youtube, and maybe you thought when you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all, but this is a little different (and please; drink alcohol responsibly).

Grand GoKart Christmas Puzzle winner announced

Feb 05 2011

Well we’re pretty pleased to have our shed back, because having received a shedload of entries for the Grand Christmas Puzzle 2010 the closing date arrived and we’ve drawn a lucky winner.

Joe McG from Montrose is our Man of the Match, and wins his very own GoKart electric golf trolley. On hearing the news he told us; “Harry Vardon once said ‘Don’t play too much golf, two rounds a day are plenty’. No problem for me now! – many thanks to Go-Kart.”

Well that leads us to draw two conclusions; 1. Joe is a clever and extremely canny Scotsman.  2. Harry Vardon probably had a GoKart.

You can still play the puzzle, the link is still live and the forum is still there for hints and help. You can access our previous two puzzles, Summer 2010 and Christmas 2009 if you get seriously addicted.

And thanks again to Joe Davies, the creator of all our puzzles. He has a whole site of them – Riddlex – Joe you are officially wicked!
